TECHNICAL WRITER INTERN
Part-time during the school semester and full-time during the summer.
The Safety department is looking for detail oriented college intern to serve as technical writers: taking complicated, technical terminology, and translating it into plain language.
Develop Safe Standard Work Procedures and other technical documents relating to OSHA compliance and standard work documents.
The tasks involve research on process systems, job tasks, and equipment, interviewing production employees, and reviewing JHA's (Job Hazard Analysis sheets), JBS (Job Breakdown Sheets, SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) and manufacturer equipment manuals to produce a user-friendly document that includes photos, flow charts, line drawings, or other illustrations to sequence, enhance or clarify the proper steps required to perform a job or task, in a safe standard method.
Student needs to be enrolled as a full-time student and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA. Preferred majors: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, EHS - Environmental, Health & Safety, or Journalism.
Requires expert user of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD, Visio or other drawing packages. Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas.
Good technical writing skills (clear and concise).
Requires excellent written/verbal communication and time management skills. Good interviewing and listening skills. Consistently accurate and demonstrates attention to detail.
Employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of Carpenter's pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen.
